Dental Site Director
General Description: The Dental Site Director (DSD) sets the standard for the delivery of dental care at one of locations within Caring Health Center and ensures that this standard is met. The DSD is responsible for developing and implementing the dental vision of the site, in conjunction with the overall goals and mission of Caring Health Center. The DSD is responsible for the clinical oversight of dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants, and/or rotating dental students to maintain standards of care from clinical, ethical, and legal frameworks. As a member of the leadership team in the Department of Dental Medicine, together with other leaders (e.g., Practice Manager, Lead Dental Assistant, etc.), the DSD plans strategies for future program development and expansion of services.
Reports to: Chief Dental Officer (CDO)
Supervises: Dentists, Limited License Dentists, Registered Dental Hygienists, Dental Assistants, Dental Students
Salary/Status: Exempt
Minimum Requirements:
- Holds Massachusetts licensure for the practice of dentistry and is in good standing with licensure authorities; foreign-trained dentists with a Massachusetts limited license dentist may be considered given significant previous dental leadership experience.
- Holds a dental Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Experienced with or having a strong interest in addressing the health care needs of low income, special needs or disadvantaged populations.
- Committed to community empowerment; sensitive to and respectful of cultural differences of the patient population.
- Able to develop and work with a multi-disciplinary team.
- Able to balance clinical duties (32-36 hours per week) with administrative requirements (4-8 hours per week).
- Possesses supervisory skills in integrating the needs of the dental staff with the goals of the organization.
- Possesses clinical skills in evidence-based general & preventive dentistry, periodontics, endodontics, prosthodontics, pedodontics, oral surgery, implantology & digital dentistry
- Knowledgeable in principles and practices of hierarchy of medical/dental evidence in the scientific literature and academic databases
- Knowledgeable in principles and practices of quality improvement and assurance.
- Knowledgeable in principles and practices of medical-dental/oral-systemic health and inter-professional collaboration and education
Principal Responsibilities and Duties:
- Supervises and provides on-going evaluation of dentists, dental hygienists, and dental assistants to the Health Center in their daily clinical practice.
- Ensures that productivity expectations are met.
- Works collaboratively with staff members regarding patient education.
- Communicates regularly and appropriately to other leaders in the Department of Dental Medicine, including the Chief Dental Officer and Practice Manager(s)
- Assures that the quality standards of the dental clinic site are maintained and that the Health Center is in compliance with environmental and workplace safety standards.
- Develops, maintains and monitors the quality assurance/quality improvement plan of the dental clinic site and develops such in conjunction with the Chief Dental Officer, Board of Directors, and the Quality Assurance Committee.
- Supervises the clinical work of Limited Licensed dentists, as needed.
- Provides oversight to the implementation of dental programs consistent with the organization’s Health Care Plan which is updated annually.
- Provides oversight on all logs for licensure compliance.
- Ensures that all equipment is calibrated on a timely basis
- Assists the CDO in grant development and dental contracts compliance.
- Assists the CDO in the development and maintenance of patient referral systems.
- Assists the CDO in the credentialing of all dental staff, in conjunction with HR.
- Assists the CDO in Quality Assurance, benchmarking, and data collection-statistics.
- Assists the CDO in the maintenance of up-to-date policies and procedures.
- Assists the CDO in executing other functions as deemed necessary by the Board of Directors and President/CEO.
Working Conditions:
- There is potential exposure to patient blood and body fluids.
- This position requires the ability to use a computer workstation.
- This position will be clinical (32-36 hours per week) & administrative (4-8 hours per week)
