Pediatrician Nurse Practitioner

General Description:

The  Pediatric Nurse Practitioner shall diagnose, treat, and promote health and optimal a functioning to Caring Health Center’s patients, from newborn through 21 years of age, in accordance with professional standards and established CHC policies and procedures.

Salary/Status:            Exempt

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Current Massachusetts NP licensure and /or eligibility for certification.
  2. Current Mass CSR and DEA licenses
  3. Certification in  Pediatrics or certification in Family Practice with special interest in  pediatric & adolescent medicine
  4. Ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, PAs and NPs, nursing staff, medical assistants, community health workers, nutritionists, social workers, and case managers.
  5. Previous experience in ambulatory care and/or public health is preferred.

 Desirable:

  1. Fluency in Spanish, Arabic, Russian, Nepali, Pashto, Dari, Swahili, or another language served at CHC
  2. Special expertise in provision of health care to underserved, culturally diverse populations
  3. Proficiency in assessment and delivery of family planning services to a diverse population.
  4. Interest in developing and maintaining collaborations with outside institutions and agencies that play a critical role in a child and adolescent’s health, for example -  schools and behavioral health agencies

Principle Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Conducts comprehensive patient assessments - both in-person and via telemed, both audio and video .
  2. Identifies potential and actual health and health-related problems, both acute and chronic, and together with patient and family / guardian, develops and implements treatment plans that include pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic components. This includes the weaving of  important discussions re: wellness, health promotion, disease prevention, and self-care. Assessment of possible social determinants of health that may be playing a role in a child’s or adolescent’s  health trajectory is also important
  3. Offers comprehensive clinical family planning services when appropriate.
  4. Reviews patient charts and ensures health maintenance issues are addressed in a timely way and that appropriate treatment plans are developed and followed.
  5. Completes all charts as soon as possible, but no later than 72 hours after the visit.
  6. Charts also need to be completed in a manner that meets all risk management and chart audit requirements.
  7. Collaborates and consults with CHC physicians and other providers as needed, especially in the care of more complex patients. When deemed necessary, refers patients to appropriate specialists and other practitioners and facilities.
  8. Participates in the Pediatric ‘On Call’ schedule
  9. Cooperates with efforts of CHC administration to monitor and improve the quality of patient care by evaluating patient outcomes.
  10. Maintains updated Pediatric Nurse Practitioner guidelines as well as those developed by the American Academy of Pediatrics.
  11. Participates in peer review of charts.
  12. Maintains all CME/CEU, Board and Licensing requirements of state and national governing Boards.

This position requires compliance with Caring Health Center’s compliance standards including its Standard of Conduct, Compliance program, and policies and procedures.  Such compliance will be an element considered as part of the Nurse Practitioner’s regular performance evaluation. 

This position also requires the ability to use a computer, work at a computer workstation, view a CRT and have some knowledge of a keyboard.

From time to time, it also requires the ability to work long and arduous hours.
